Competition: Live tickets - Gross Magic, Tashaki Miyaki, Bos Angeles in London

Seriously. Look at that line-up. I couldn't have wished for anything better. It's like a dream. Genuinely three of the best 'up and coming' bands around right now - the excellently shameless glam pop of Brighton's Gross Magic, the sweet and vintage fuzz pop of Tashaki Miyaki, and the vibrant lo-fi surf 'vibes' of Boscombe's Bos Angeles - on one bill at London's 100 Club, Wednesday 28 September. And we have five pairs of tickets to giveaway thanks to the lovely folk at 100 Club and Converse.

Simply send an email, titled something vaguely similar to "Gross Magic, Tashaki Miyaki and Bos Angeles competition" with your name and postal address to basementcompetitions@gmail.com before Sunday 26 September to be in with a chance to get yourself two tickets. Strictly 18+, and please don't enter if you're gonna attempt to sell the tix on, it won't work. Winners will be announced on Monday 27 September. ENTER.

Gross Magic - Sweetest Touch

Bos Angeles - Beach Slalom

Tashaki Miyaki - Somethin Is Better Than Nothin

Win: 2 tickets to Crushing Blows/Bos Angeles in London

So we've teamed up with the ace Club Fandango to give one reader a chance to win two tickets to see Crushing Blows and Bos Angeles - as well as Runaround Kids and Maz Totterdale - at London's Bull and Gate, August 8. Anyone who reads this blog regularly will know just how much we love Boscombe three-piece Bos Angeles so we're pretty pleased to be running this competition.

To win, simply answer the below question.

What was the name of the first song to appear on Bos Angeles' bandcamp that originally got them loads of attention? (Hint: HERE) Was it:

a) Beach Slalom
b) Sand Kiting
c) Surfin' UK

Send your answer before Sunday August 7 along with your name and address to basementcompetitions[at]gmail.com. One winner will be selected at random and will be notified on Sunday. One entry per person. Strictly 18+. Entry will be granted with a +1 to the competition winner only. Strictly no re-selling - so please make sure you can personally attend.

Competition: Foot Village Brighton Tickets

Hello all. Basement Fever are back with OUR BIGGEST AND BESTEST COMPETITION YET and all you need to do is answer ONE SIMPLE QUESTION. That's right. Go on. Read on. I dare you not to.

Once again linking up with One Inch Badge - our Brighton-based promoting and label-running e-chums - we have two tickets to give away to one lucky reader to Furballs; a live music extravaganza taking place on THURSDAY 21ST JULY at Green Door Store, featuring Foot Village and support from Bitches, Peepholes, and Negative Pegasus.

Foot Village are from LA and are noise merchants of the highest order; using strictly drums and shouty vocals to communicate their message that music just isn't weird enough. Fans of Sonic Youth, Mclusky, Future of the Left and high decibels will most certainly enjoy.

Foot Village - Lovers With Iraqis

Bitches are a London two-piece, involving themselves in anti-social and scrappy post-punk sounds, with shouty boy-girl vocals rallying back and forth and plenty of atonal guitar feedback.

Bitches - Wallett

Peepholes are London/Brighton-based and synth-led, but that doesn't make them any less punk or fucking noisy than the rest of this line-up. Female fronted and absolutely frantic, these are absolutely ace and I've been wanting to see them for ages.

Peepholes - Carnivore

And Negative Pegasus are Brighton-based and furiously noisy also, though dealing more with heavy, feedback drenched psych-rock than the reverb-punk of the rest of the line-up. Featured on NME today, these definitely won't be timid in opening up the show.

Negative Pegasus - Psychic Energy

A genuinely excellent line-up at probably my favourite Brighton venue. To win, answer the following question: Which band was Negative Pegasus' Todd Jordan formerly in (hint: HERE)? Was it:

a) Todd and the Dead Seas of Jordan
b) My Device
c) Nick Cave and the Bad Eggs

Email your answer to basementcompetitions@gmail.com - along with your name and address - BEFORE Thursday July 14, when one winner will be picked at random. One entry per person. 18+ only. Strictly no "re-selling" or any of that rubbish, and please only enter if you can definitely attend.

Best of luck.

Competition: Six Organs Of Admittance Brighton Tickets

Six Organs Of Admittance One Inch Badge Brighton Komedia gig poster
Since our competition for Asobi Seksu tickets, Basement Fever and Brighton label and promoters One Inch Badge decided that they wanted to be e-buddies. So here we are, a few months down the line, our relationship blossoming, and our tree of e-love bearing new fruit: two tickets to see American psych-folk act Six Organs Of Admittance at Komedia on June 11 (two weeks today!).

Musically active for over 10 years, Six Organs Of Admittance is primarily the project of Ben Chasny, who also plays in projects Magik Markers and Comets On Fire. To call Ben 'prolific' would be an understatement, having released over a dozen albums under Six Organs Of Admittance alone, with the latest release being described by The Quietus as "43 minutes of highly creative and often beautiful music".

To have a chance of winning, email the correct answer to the question below before June 4 to basementcompetitions at gmail dot com.

What is the name of the latest album release of Six Organs Of Admittance?
a) Asleep On The Floodplain
b) Six Organs Of Admittance
c) Six Awakening Organs On The Admitting Floodplain

This is an 18+ event. Strictly one entry per person. Prize draw will take place on June 4. Winners will be contacted by email. For help with the answer, check The Quietus review here.

PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOU CAN MAKE IT TO THE SHOW IN BRIGHTON ON JUNE 11 BEFORE ENTERING.

Sorry for shouting. Listen to a track taken from their latest release below.

Competition: Asobi Seksu Brighton Tickets

The other week I posted about New York shoegazers Asobi Seksu, speaking about their latest album Fluorescence as well as getting a bit excited by their upcoming UK tour.

Kindly, the folks at One Inch Badge Records have got in touch to say they'd be more than happy to to give away two free tickets to their show at Brighton Audio on April 21 to one lucky frequenter of this here blog. That's pretty cool, 'cause my guess is it'll be a really good (and pretty darn noisy) show that will be difficult to forget.

To be in with a chance to win the two tickets, all you need to do is send the correct answer to the following question to basementcompetitions[at]gmail[dot]com with an email headed 'Asobi Seksu' (or something like that).

What was the name of Asobi Seksu's second album? Was it:
a) Citrus
b) Orange
c) Lemon

A winner will be picked at random on April 10. One entry per person. If you're entering, please be sure you can make it to the gig. If you're a bit stuck, Wikipedia might be of use here.

Get yourself even more excited by listening to the brilliant Perfectly Crystal below. Find more info on the gig at the Facebook event page.

Competition: Saturday's Kids Goodies

That's right. Welcome to Basement Fever's first ever competition! We're very happy to be here and we're excited to be giving away free stuff from people that we like. We think it's a pretty decent prize, and we hope you do too. Of course by 'we' I actually mean 'I'. Anyway.

Any even semi-regular visitor to or Facebook fan or Twitter follower of this blog will know just how much we like Saturday's Kids. They've featured a good few times on BF (here, here, and here, and we've also shouted how much we like them at other places, like on The Pigeon Post. Their ever-developing post-punk/post-hardcore sound has had us excited on many, many occasions and new tracks never fail to impress even when taking very new directions.

Kindly they've agreed to give away some free stuff to one lucky reader of this blog. The stuff featuring in the picture above. That is:

- A copy of their 10" split with Kids Return (featuring Theorum, Unattainable and Whisper In My Ear).
- A copy of their 7" vinyl (featuring Three Days, Spider's Legs, and A Dirty Dream)
- And a free t-shirt (in the size of your request).

They might even chuck in some pin badges. My left foot, although wonderfully socked, isn't included, unfortunately. All you have to do to enter this competition is answer one easy question.

Which part of the United Kingdom do Saturday's Kids call their home - England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland?

Email your answer to basementcompetitions@gmail.com with an email headed "Saturday's Kids Competition" (or something vaguely similar) in the next 2 weeks to enter. Entrance to the competition will close on Sunday 20th March, and a winner will then be picked at random. It is a policy of one entrance per individual, though, and address for postage must be in the UK.

If you're unsure of the answer, those previous Basement Fever posts or the band's Facebook page may be able to help.

And if you've forgotten quite how they sound, have a listen to some tracks below (posted in chronological order to try demonstrating their constant evolution as a group of young musicians).

Saturday's Kids - Social Crimes

Saturday's Kids - Grey On White

Saturday's Kids - Dirty Dream

Saturday's Kids - Whisper In My Ear

Feel free to tell all your friends to increase your chances. Best of luck!
