In the world of new music blogging 24 hours is an eternity and this post is probably already out-dated. Fear Of Men yesterday announced a limited-run cassette release, featuring songs recorded with Henry from Lovvers. They also unveiled 'Doldrums' from that cassette, and, as you'd expect with that kind of musical cocktail, it is excellent. Not that you need to take my word for it - listen and download below. Oh, and they're also touring with Bos Angeles, which is a no-brainer, really.
Some bands that receive a little bit of hype fizzle out before they've even really accomplished anything, but it seems Fear Of Men might be here to stay. From an impressive early (and now sold out) tape out on Sex Is Disgusting, the Brighton/London four-piece have announced a new single out on Italian Beach Babes, August 22. Ritual Confessions sees the band making yet another leap forward, with a heartfelt and infectious chorus and at least a little hint of The Smiths.
Brighton/London androphobes (or perhaps not) Fear Of Men seem to have emerged out of nowhere. A bit like that scene on Toy Story (the only one that matters – numero uno) where the toys come out of the sandbox and freak Andy the fuck out, Fear Of Men ascend from the swathes of other bands, but give you a kiss on the cheek and turn you all bashful rather than sending you into a fear-driven frenzy.
Sex Is Disgusting, as always, are on the ball super early as are the likes of The Pigeon Post (well, Matthew writing for This Is Fake DIY) and Sonic Masala - and it’s with super good reason, too. Their female-led, lo-fi jangly pop songs are not only on the button with the popular trends of today, they’re also really good.
